Since our challenge is Food and Beverages I decided to feature a 'blast from the past.'  When I got involved in scrapbooking, my first designs were for a 'Recipe' scrapbook.  The pages contained favorite family recipes.  Some have pictures and some silly depictions of the recipe name (i.e. a chocolate chip, a hammer and a cake for Chocolate Pound Cake, I know corny).  Today I am featuring two of my favorite pages and recipes.  The first is Uncle Boy's Honey Ham.

Here is the recipe:

Uncle Boy's Honey Ham

Wash Ham.  Pat with brown sugar, 1/8" to 1/4" thick.

Stick pineapple rings on with toothpicks.  Drizzle with honey.

Cover entire pan with foil.  Bake in a preheated oven @ 200 degrees for 3-4 hours.

Last 30 minutes take cover off.  Drizzle with honey and bake uncovered.

Let stand 30 minutes before serving.  Yummo!

Pig:  This design is from an old desktop publishing software.  I printed one out and made my pattern from their.  All objects are hand cut and enhanced.

This too is from my Recipe Scrapbook.  It is a favored cake of my family.  Although the recipe shown is Alan Jackson's Chocolate Sheet Cake, in my family it is fondly known as Aunt Edna's Chocolate Cake.  My Aunt Edna is much older than Alan Jackson so I reserve the rights for her.  There is not a family function that I have attended in the last 55 years that has not seen this cake.  It is my favorite!!  This is definitely a chocolate lover's delight!  You can find this recipe HERE.

Here is my CANDY-licious project...

While I was making this tag I was reminded of all the fun times my sistar and I had on Halloween.  We loved to dress up.  Usually we were 'Hobos.'  We would rummage through our father's old suit coats, then add some fabric patches with gaudy stitching (to be removed later), smudge up our faces and draw exagerated features, then it was off to the streets.  When we were pretty young my mother had gotten us matching Peter Pan pajamas.  These doubled as our Halloween costumes.  When I got older my hubby and I dressed up as a dog and a cat, respectively.  We called ourselves the 'Party Animals.'  Our costumes were complete with streamers, party horn, hat and noise maker.  We won the costume contest that year.  If you are dressing up this year I hope you have a great time.

The question this week is:  Are you afraid of the dark?  Yes and No!  I am not afraid of the dark when inside the house ... except during nighttime storms.  However, I am frightened in the dark when outside by myself.  We have all sorts of critters (skunks, possums, coyotes, bats) that lurk in the dark.  During the summer we have a bullfrog that loves to lounge in our pond.  And then there are the snakes during the summer.  I am terribly frightened of snakes.  I won't even go in that part of the pet store and avoid any TV show/Movie that even features a snake.  And no, I DID NOT go see 'Snakes on a Plane!!!'  When DH was on the road all the time, I was a bit more jumpy than I am now.  But let's not dwell on that.  It is time for a new project ... so with out further ado, here is my project!

Smile! - PDEC Wk#39

Happy Friday!

It is time for another wonderful challenge from Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges!!!

Do you smile often?

My answer to this week's question is ... YES!  I have a lot to be thankful for, therefore, I smile!  Let me list some of my reasons to smile:

1. My honey thinks he is the funniest person around.  He makes a lot of 'funny' jokes (or at least he thinks they are funny). 

2. My honey is very silly.  He has an active imagination ... that can be a good thing or a very bad thing.

3. My kitties make me smile with their funny feline antics.  Bubbe likes to bring me paper 'treasures.'

4. I smile when I am please with a finished project.

5. When the birds are jumping from branch to branch in the bushes by my crafting window.

6. When one of the cats thinks they can catch the geckos on the window screens that are attracted to the bugs because of the light.

I loved using the patterned paper by DCWV.  This sheet has several stripes of different patterns and a lot of detailing at the top of the page.  I chose to use the stripes near the bottom so I positioned the cutting blade by placing the tag shadow on the paper and moved the blade to the correct length, removed the tag and proceeded to cut.  I like it when I can plan something and everything goes as planned.

Yes, I chose to make a Yellow School Bus with a Red frame.  I had an important story for this week.  My hubby is now a School Bus Driver.  He is really enjoying the elementary and high school children.  I am so proud of him.  He looks very dapper in his new uniform.  This was the perfect transition from being an OTR driver to working locally.  After many, many years in transportation he was ready for a change.

This week was another fun one for me.  I do play several instruments:  piano, concertina (squeeze box) and the organ.  I took piano lessons for about eight years.  Most of those years were with Mrs. Rutschmann.  She was wonderful and a very strict and exacting teacher.  Being classically trained is a wonderful gift.  I learned even more by playing with the praise team at my church.  Not being too good at chording, working with the praise team was a crash course in chording and improv.  My favorite types of music usually have a 'boogie-woogie' type beat.  Here is my project for this week's challenge:

Hello Sweetie! - PDEC #35

Hello Friends and Crafters,

It is good to be back at my craft desk.  I have been away from my desk for two weeks.  One week I was on vacation.  Although I took my Cricut with me (I had a ton of projects to finish), I did not have ALL my blogging tools (photo software, my word files, etc.).  My sister and I did get a banner made for her classroom and several more projects which will be featured at a later date.  We had a ton of fun working with all the paper.  Only hard part was lugging it up and down stairs to our condo.  Then I spent another week here at home helping my sister get her classroom together for this school year.  Mom and I spent a day and a half working on Bev's classroom with Beverly.  We had a great time.  Until, I was poking my nose into a cabinet and the chair I was sitting in whooshed out from under me.  I hit the ground ... butt first and the chair rebounded back into my head and shoulders.  It was quite a site ... and boy did it hurt.  My rear was numb for almost a week.  I have huge bruises on my upper arms.  They are black and nasty looking.  I guess that is what I get for being nosy!!!  HA-HA!!!  Well, I am finally back in my craft room and can now sit for more than 5 minutes at a time ... and am WAY behind.

I hope everyone has had a terrific week.  I am away on vacation ... yeah!  Sad this is our last day to play, but we have had a relaxing time at the lake.  Will get back to the normal routine well rested.  Are you ready for another Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge?  Well, I sure am.  I have missed my craft room, so here goes ...

The question this week is "How do Flamingos get so pretty in Pink?"  Well, I did a bit of research.  The pink color comes from aqueous bacteria and beta carotene that is obtained from their food supply.  Flamingos eat 'blue algae' and shrimp.  The mates are picked by their color.  The darker the pink the more healthy the flamingo, supposedly.

Pink is a wonderful color.  Pink happens to be one of my favorite colors.  I love all shades of pink and can be found to wear them often.  I even have pink clogs!  For women pink is a 'power' color.  Think of all the warriors who have bravely fought breast cancer and many other types of cancer.   Reese Witherspoon comes to mind when I think of pink.  Her role as Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde" was shaded with pink throughout.  I love that movie.  So the challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges this week is to create a Flamingo or pink project. 

Even though I am a pink person by nature, I chose to take this in a different direction ... I hope Janis loves the irony of this project.  I chose to make Crocs dressing up in pink (as camo) to see if they could fit in to the Flamingo crowd.  Crocs, or in the case of the US, Gators are the biggest predator of Flamingos.  So, on to the 'Great Flamingo Hunt.'

Aren't these two Crocs just a hoot!!!  I think this is just too funny!  Hope you had a great LOL time with this one.

Around the Farm - PDEC Wk#32

Hello Crafters,

How has your week gone?  It has been a busy one for me.  Getting ready for vacation.  Going to the lake for a nice relaxing week.  There will be a big party on Sunday for the "Sister's Reunion" for my Mom and her sisters.  There will be six sisters in attendance and many cousins, nieces and maybe a few nephews.  It is a fun time.  August is a special month for us.  There will be at least four birthday girls there.  Some of the nieces and cousins have August birthdays too, just don't know which will be in attendance.  Too much fun!!!  Birthday wishes all around.  Well, let's get on to the project of the week for Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges.

This week at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges our challenge was to create a project from "Around the Farm".  Well, I have been around several farms.  My Nannie had cows and chickens.  During war time she sold her eggs to the local market.  My mom grew up with fresh milk, straight from the cow.  I am not fond of fresh milk ... don't like the floaties ... eeeeewwwwwww!  But fresh milk does make good butter.  Now mind you that my grandmother had nine children ... yes, you read right that is NINE!!!  With all those names to remember she made it easy on herself and named the cows for her girls.  Can you imagine you mother running down a list of names and forget and call you the same as the cow?  Well, naming her cows the same as her girls took care of that problem ... heehee!!  My mother also had a pet chicken that followed her everywhere.  Around that farm you could not get too attached to anything as it may wind up as dinner!!

My ex-husband, Brad and I raised our own beef and pork.  It was tons of work but sure good eats.  Did you know that a single pig will not eat as well as two pigs?  They like a little competition.  We did not name our pigs as I did not want to be eating 'Gracey or Ellie'.  Well, here is my little project for this week's challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges.

Pigs:  YEE-HAW Lite, pg 2, 7th image, Pig cut @ 1".  Used the Flip Function on one pig.
Cardstock:  The Paper Company (White, Black and Burgundy), Recollections (Sage), SEI (Chick-a-dee assortment - peach is flipside of Tiny Bubbles)
