Miss Abby - PDEC 52 - Week 26

Happy Friday Bloggers,

It has been a HOT week here in North Texas.  Temps on Tuesday topped at 107 degrees!!  Hope you are staying cool wherever you are.

This week at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges we were challenged to make a project about someone or something that has left footprints on your life/heart.  Well in my case it is pawprints on my life.  I chose to make a tag commerating the life of Miss Abby the Tabby.  I adopted Abby from a pet store that had taken in an owner surrender cat.  She was already named Abby so I stuck with the name.  Abby was a black/gray tabby.  Her previous owner had Abby's front claws removed since they had small children.  Abby was a 'cushion and cream' kitty or in plain speak ... VERY SPOILED!!!  She and I did most everything together.  She was not one to go riding in a car though.  Other than that she was a real sport about everything.  I enjoy counted cross-stitching and Abby enjoyed sitting on my lap and chasing the thread.  She also thought that she was supposed to lay on the quilt that was in the frame being quilted.  Abby soon got her own perch at the quilting frame as well.

After I got married and moved to an apartment Abby got very curious about the outdoors.  I would open the front door to a crack and Abby would poke her face through the crack and 'peek' at the world.  Since our front door was a ways from the street we did not get a lot of foot traffic.  Abby would jump back from the door every time there was an unfamiliar noise.  One day a little kitty popped in on Abby.  She panicked and started hissing up a storm.  The poor little kitty had no clue what was wrong with that strange Tabby.  They soon became fast friends and I made a fast friend of the kitty's mom across the way.  There are tons more stories I could tell about Miss Abby.  Don, my husband, had never had a pet before.  Abby and he were fast friends.  He was quite fanatical about Abby.  If Abby was out of canned food, he would go to the market for her at ANY time, day or night!  Lot's of wonderful memories.  Well, let's get on to the "Abby" project.

Love Birds

Happy Thursday Bloggie friends,

We are having another HOT one here in North Texas.  My poor a/c has been going full blast for days now.   This is the only part of Summer I don't particularly like ... high electric bills!

I was buzzing around the blogs that I follow and saw  a cutie at CardzTV and thought I would scraplift the style of card from Mary's site.  Stop by and give Mary a look-see too!  Also, I needed a card for a Bridal Shower.  This was perfect as these two kids are so sweet!

Card front
I made the title a bit larger than the 'love birds.'  Since I wanted to have a 'girl' and 'boy' in different colors, I cut this out three times.  I think it came out really cute.  The patterned paper could not have matched better.  I picked the bird colors them went on a hunt for the background papers.

A peek inside.
Since I had cut this so many times it was easy to have extra birds for the
inside too.

Here is the recipe for this cutie:
Size:  A2 (overall 5.50" x 4.25")
Birds:  STRAIGHT FROM THE NEST, pg 35, Phrase and Phrase-s, cut @ 2"
Saying:  STRAIGHT FROM THE NEST, pg 35, Phrase and Phrase-s, cut @ 2.5"
Label:  ELEGANT EDGES, pg 29, Leaves-s cut @ 3.25" using Oblong; cut @ 3.50" using Oblong and Shadow
Cardstock:  The Paper Company and Bazzill Basics Paper
Patterned Paper:  DWCV (The Sweet Shop Glitter Matstack)
Fibers:  Embellish It! by Bazzill Basics Paper (Monochromatic browns)
Ink:  Tsuneiko (Rich Cocoa - Momento)
Pen:  Sukara (White Jelly Roll)
Font:  Microsoft (Princess BTN)

This card is entered into the following challenges:

Baby, It's Cold Outside (PDEC - Ch#3)

Happy Monday Bloggers,

Today I am doing a bit of catch-up again.  Ch# 3 @ Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges was 'Warm and Cozy'.  When I think of 'Warm and Cozy', I think of my winter hats, mittens and scarves.  My mom makes scarves year round.  Some are heavy, some are frilly and all are soft and made with love.  I love to use my frilly scarves as collars to some of my dresses.  With a rainbow of colors it is easy to update a wardrobe in no time.  Here is my project for Ch#3:

PDEC 52 Questions - Ch# 24 - Main Color Yellow

Fantastic Friday Bloggers,

Hope you have a Fantastic Friday planned for today.  Another beautiful weekend is beginning!!!

Today at Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges 52 Question we were to make a project featuring the color YELLOW!  Yellow is such a happy color!  I chose to make a Peace Rose.  The petals of this Rose are Yellow with pink edges.  Peace Roses are among my favorites.  In the past in the DFW area there were Rose vendors on most corners.  They purchased their roses in Tyler, known as the Rose Capital of the World ... or at least Texas!  I think they were $5/dozen.  My boyfriend at the time would buy me roses every Friday/Saturday.  I really enjoyed getting roses.  Now, roses are $75/dozen ... if you're lucky.  Well on to my project.

Peace Rose - Yellow as Main Color
The ribbon is so shiny that it reflected the flash from my camera.  Even without the flash I got a reflection from my lighting.

Here is my recipe:
Tag:  ELEGANT EDGES, page 46, , cut @ 4.5" using Oblong and Shadow features.
Rose:  WALK IN MY GARDEN, page 98 + cut @ 3.75" using Blackout feature
Cardstock:  The Paper Company and Colorbok
Patterned Paper:  Spring Fling & Summer Days Combo Stack (DCWV)
Ink:  Shabby Shutters (Ranger) and Pink Pigment Brush Pad (Colorbox - Clearsnap)
Fiber:  5/8" Sheer Garbo Powder Pink (Offray)
Adhesives:  ATG (Scotch), Ultra Thin Glue Dots (Glue Dots Intl, LLC) and Zig 2 Way Glue Pen Fine Tip (EK Success)

I really love how the Rose cut from WALK IN MY GARDEN is so versatile.  You can use it with or without the black out feature.  For this project I chose to cut the rose head and rose body with the black out feature to show the intricate features on the cuts.  It was super easy to put this together and I will be using it again in more projects.

Won't you come join us @ Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges with a project featuring the color YELLOW?  This month we have TWO great prizes, ONE for a US winner and ONE for a Canadian winner!!!  Don't forget to stop by my DT sister's blogs and hand out some comment {LOVE}.

Sunny Thursday Bloggers,

Yesterday afternoon we had a quick and horrible storm. We experienced golf ball sized hail.  It was pinging off of everything.  The cats were so scared they were hiding.  Sophie was slinking around until she finally settled under the dining room table.  There was no visible damage, but will have an insurance adjuster come out and take a look at the roof and awnings.  We were lucky.  Many others were not.  But, today it is sunny and beautiful.

On to my creative offering.  I made a cute little card from 3 BIRDS ON PARADE.  I am really enjoying this cartridge.  So many cute cuts.

Father's Day Series - Day 3

Happy Wednesday Bloggers,

Here is the latest and final card in the Father's Day Series.  This card was made for Lucy, my youngest feline-furbaby, to give to her Daddy.  She is his favorite and she is certainly a "Daddy's kitty."

I used the same color scheme with this card.  No buttons, but I did make a banner for the front of the card.  This is an easel card with a twist.  I folded this on an angle for added interest.
Card front
This is an Easel fold card.  It is the typical A2 (4.25" x 5.5")
folded on an angle instead of the traditional potriat fold.

I {Heart} Cats (PDEC 52 - Ch# 6)

Happy Tuesday Bloggers,

I am doing a bit of catch up on the Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges.   I did not start working with this challenge group until Ch# 9.  I am slowly catching up with Janis our leader.

I do not remember a time when cats were not in my life.  My earliest memory of cats (kitties, kittens, etc.) was playing with them on my Grammy's back porch.  She had dozens of cats around most of the time.  They were great at keeping the rattlesnake population down.  Some of the cats I remember most are:
1) Missy, she was a three day old we brought back from Freer one Thanksgiving.  She survived the eight hour trip.
2) Mittens was the first kitty I acquired when I was first married.  She was a wonderful calico kitty.
3) Stripes (a tabby) and Tuxedo (black with a white bow at his neck) were from a friend.
4) Abby was my best bud for a long time, a real sweetie.  She passed away in 2003.
5, 6 and 7) Sophie, Zach ("Bubbe") and Lucy.  These are my current feline fur-babies.  Sophie is an orange/white tabby I got from the local shelter.  Her favorite meow is 'met'.  Zach, affectionately known as Bubbe was acquired two weeks after Sophie.  He was also acquired at the shelter.  Bubbe looks very similar to Sophie.  Lucy is a found fur-baby.  A cute little calico who loves to talk.  She is a 'Daddy's girl'.  I could babble on about my babies for hours ... days!  Let's get to the tag!

Here is the recipe for this tag:
Tag:  ELEGANT EDGES, page 46, Heart2-s, cut @ 4.5" using Oblong and Shadow features
Cat:  FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS, Cat3, cut @ 2.5"
Sentiment Mat: 1.5" x 2"
Cardstock:  The Paper Company
Embossing:  D'Vine Swirl Embossing Folder (Cuttlebug - Provo Craft)
Ink:  Rich Cocoa Momento (Tsukineko)
Font:  WALLOWHMK (Hallmark)
Quote:  Cats - Vellum Quotes w/Flair (http://www.flairdesignsinc.com/)
Adhesives:  ATG (Scotch) and 2 Way Glue Pen Fine Tip (EK Success)

So if you are wanting a new challenge every Friday, stop by Pause Dream Enjoy Challenges and join in on the fun!  There will be 52 Questions/Themes for the year and you can jump in at any time with any type of project as long as it fits the theme.   There is BLOG CANDY each month during the actual month.  This month our sponsors are Lucy Kelleher - CLOSE TO MY HEART USA consultant and Darla Haverstock - CLOSE TO MY HEART Canadian consultant.  That's right 1 USA winner and 1 Canadian winner will receive the featured BLOG CANDY during the month of June.

Father's Day Series - Day 2

Happy Monday My Bloggie Friends,

Hope your weekend was fabulous.  It was bright and sunny here.

Today I want to share the second card in the Father's Day Series.  This card will be from Zach, or I as affectionately call him "Bubbe."  He is pretty much a loner kitty.  Bubbe doesn't like to be picked up, doesn't like loud noises and always has something to say (he is not a 'meow-er', it is more like uuhh-uuhh).

Card front
Bubbe is an orange/white tabby, just like Sophie.  He and Sophie actually have white markings in the same locations (i.e. widow's peak, chest, belly, etc.).

Card front and partial of inside
I added the orange paper as one of the layers to make this different from Sophie's card (see post below).  I really like this cut from FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS.  Here are is the recipe for this card:
Size:  A2 (4.25" x 5.5")
     Orange mat cut @ 4" x 5.25"
     Purple mat cut @ 3.75" x  5"
     Green mat cut @ 3.5" x 4.75"
     Purple strip cut @ 1" x 5"
     Sentiment mat cut @ 1" x 2.5"
     Inside sentiment mat cut @ 2.75" x 3.75"
Cat:  FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS, Cat 2 and all layers cut @ 3.5"
Cardstock:  The Paper Company
Patterned Paper:  Flower Shower Spring Stack - DCWV
Font:  WALLOWHMK (Hallmark)
Accent:  Citrus Button (Favorite Findings)
Ink:  Rich Cocoa Momento (Tsukineko)
Fiber:  327-Dk Violet Floss (DMC)
Adhesives:  ATG (Scotch) and 2 Way Glue Pen Fine Tip (EK Success)

Father's Day Series - Day 1

Happy Saturday Bloggers,

I want to share a Father's Day creation today.  Every year I create three cards for our cats to give to my hubby, their 'Cat Dad'.  He really enjoys them.  This is the first of the cards for this year.  Sophie is our oldest 'feline fur-baby' and this is her card.

This is the front of the card

This shows a partial of the inside of the card.

Here is the recipe:
Size:  A2
Cat:  FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS LITE, Cat 1 and all layers cut @ 3.5"
Cardstock:  The Paper Company
Patterned Paper:  Flower Shower Spring Stack - DCWV
     Green mat cut @ 5.25" x 4"
Purple mat cut @ 5.25" x 4" then cut diagonally
Font:  WALLOWHMK (Hallmark)
Accents:  Lime buttons (Citrus pack - Favorite Findings)

PDEC 52 Questions - Ch # 23 - Beach

Welcome to my blog,

It's time for another Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge ... WooHoo!   This week we were to make a project depicting a 'Beach' theme.  Remember when you were a child and making sand castles on the beach?  Maybe you were the one who collected shells, like my sister.  Gather your craft supplies and start creating a masterpiece about your adventure.

If you want to see all 52 Questions for this challenge CLICK HERE.  You may enter at any time during the year.

52 Questions Week #23 Challenge
Create a project featuring a beach theme.

This was a hard one for me.  I am not fond of sand, therefore I don't really do much with beaches.  Also, I live about 300 miles from the Texas coastline.  With that said, I will tell you of my last visit (November 2010) to the coastline.  My family decided to spend Thanksgiving at Galveston.  We had not been there and thought it would be a great week of vacation play.  Well, it was even though the weather was foggy and a bit rainy for most of our visit.  Thanksgiving day was glorious; the sun was shining and the wind was minimal.  We stayed at Inverness by the Sea.  It was an older complex, but nicely appointed.  It was on the sea wall.  It was soothing to hear the waves mostly crashing, but sometimes gently lapping on the shore.  We mostly listened at night because the traffic noise during the day was louder than the waves.  One day of our trip we went on a ferry ride to Bolivar Island.  That was a great experience.  My first time on a ferry.  Loved watching the gulls fly around the ferry as we went too and fro.

Galveston has a lot to offer.  There are remarkable Victorian homes to tour.  There is a driving/walking tour to see the exterior of noteworthy homes.  Also, after the last hurricane many of the trees were destroyed and rotting.  The city decided to have a tree sculptor work on many of the trees in the area.  There is a driving tour to view this wonderful collection.  It was unbelievable what the artist was able to coax out of the trees.

Here is my card recipe:
Tag base:  ELEGANT EDGES, page 46,  Heart2-s cut @ 4.5" using Oblong and Shadow features.
Chair:  DESIGNER'S CALENDAR, page 46, Sat cut @ 2.5" using Events feature.  I cut this 2X.  On the orange cut I trimmed away the legs and attached it to the gray cut.
Shells:  STRETCH YOUR IMAGINATION, page 40, Shells + Layers cut  @ 1.5"
Cardstock:  The Paper Company
Patterned Paper:  Carolee's Creations (http://www.ccpaper.com/) and Colorbok
Ink:  Dark Brown Fluid Chalk Ink (Colorbox/Clearsnap)
Media:  Chocolate Brown Writer (EK Success)
Stickers:  Stickabilities (http://www.craftsetc.com/)
Adhesives:  ATG (Scotch), Zig 2 Way Glue (EK Success) and Xyron 500

Janis had another great theme for us to work with this week.  Featured on my tag is one of my favorite Bible verses.  Habakkuk was a funny prophet.  He railed at God for bringing destruction on Israel, particularly by the Chaldeans, in the beginning of the book.  It seems that he makes a rapid turn around in that short little book (only three chapters).  I am sure that it took longer than it appears.  But the last three verses summed up his change of heart toward his Salvation.  "Though there are no crops, no cattle, Yet I will be joyful and praise You because You lift me up."  Oh, that is the Blinese version ... my very own.  This week please pick up a version you enjoy reading and read Habakkuk ... especially the last three verses.
